The lodging of a development application for a 61 storey sculptural tower by the Star Entertainment Group sets the tone for the revitalisation of the Pyrmont peninsular, says the Urban Taskforce.
“The Star’s elegant tower is the outcome of a design excellence competition and the result is a spectacular architectural form,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson.
“It is only high-end tourism facilities like the Star and Crown Resorts Tower across the bay that can create the iconic forms that attract international tourism. The two towers are appropriate markers for the two peninsular they are located on.”
“The Star’s tower has evolved with significant community involvement and it includes a neighbourhood centre and community facilities.”
“The Pyrmont peninsular is now becoming a rival to the Sydney CBD peninsular with its dramatic series of tall buildings and clearly there is a potential for more tall development in Pyrmont.”
“It will be important to ensure that the growing number of destinations in Pyrmont including the proposed new Fish Markets nearby have good public transport and a station on the proposed Metro West line could help with access to these venues.”
