Detailed instructions for installing eBooks

We'll show you step-by-step how to install your eBook. For this example we'll use the API Small Development Guide (file name API_Small_Development_Guide.zip), but the procedure is the same for any API eBook. The examples and screenshots are from Windows Vista, but Windows XP is similar.

After you purchased your eBook, you would have received an email giving you the download link and activation code for your eBook. If you haven't already done so, click on this link and download the .ZIP file onto your computer. Your .ZIP file is a compressed .EXE file.

Double-click the .ZIP file to unzip (extract) it into an .EXE file. You'll see a box lke this:

Click the OPEN button to extract and run the .EXE file. You may see a box like this:

Click the ALLOW button. You may see a box like this:

Click RUN. Congratulations - your eBook is now installed! You should see a viewing window like the one below.

To activate your eBook with your activation code, click the "eBook" link as shown below, then select "Activate eBook" from the menu.

A window like this will appear:

Copy and paste your activation code into the box, then click the Activate button. You can type the activation code into the box if you prefer, but it's easier to copy (CTRL-C) then paste (CTRL-V) it. (If you have downloaded the .ZIP file but don't have an activation code, use the "Purchase a Key" button to purchase an activation code.)

Your eBook is now unlocked and ready to be read or printed out. We hope you enjoy it!
