Sydney's Brookfield Place stands tall at national development of the year awards

Central Sydney development Brookfield Place, which transformed the Wynyard district, has been named the Australian Development of the Year 2023.

Central Sydney development Brookfield Place, which transformed the Wynyard district, has been named the Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year 2023.

The precinct rejuvenation also claimed a raft of other awards, including the Hames Sharley Award for Best Mixed Use Development, the Herron Todd White Award for Best Office Development and the Procore Award for Development Innovation at the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards in Sydney on Wednesday night (23 August).

The awards, now in their 41st year in partnership with Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB), highlights ground-breaking innovations and exceptional leadership in Australia’s property industry.

The national awards night follows the recognition given to state award winners on 11 July.

In other categories, Camille Jasson from The APP Group took home the Bridge42 Award for Future Leader of the Year.

Frasers Property was awarded the Grosvenor Place Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (more than 250 employees).

Landcom won the Grosvenor Place Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (less than 250 employees), while Homes for Homes and Denman Prospect took home the NBN Award for Project Innovation.

Brookfield Place delivered 75,000 sqm of space for blue chip tenants, a diverse array of retailers, and a new entrance to Wynyard Station.

The precinct’s centrepiece is a 27-level Premium Grade office tower at 10 Carrington Street that integrates with the historic but modernised Shell House, located on the corner of Carrington and Margaret streets in the centre of the Sydney CBD.

Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas said the development of the year award showcased Brookfield Properties’ visionary approach in crafting an innovative solution for a complex location.

“Brookfield Place stands tallest in this year’s extraordinary field as an innovative mixed-use project reinvigorating the heart of the Sydney CBD,” Mr Zorbas said.

“I love it - this development shines across every facet of planning, design, building, transport and heritage considerations and delivery, allowing you to leave the practicalities of Wynyard station into a light-filled precinct that is elegant, attractive and warm,” he said.

Brookfield Properties harnessed the potential of the venture on the 4,454 square metre plot by amalgamating five individual properties situated on Carrington and George Streets.

From 157 eligible finalists, the winners were selected by a high calibre judging panel made up of 14 property specialists and chaired by Adrian Harrington.
