NSW's home of the year is in North Curl Curl

A modern family house in North Curl Curl that assimilates into the bedrock of Sydney’s Northern Beaches headlands has been named the best home in New South Wales for 2020.

Designed by Andrew Donaldson Architecture & Design and built by Mallinger Constructions, the house took out the top prize at this year’s HIA-CSR NSW Housing Awards.

A defining feature of the home is the incorporation of the natural rock face, while a living room that floats over the lower levels provides views stretching from Dee Why to Bondi Junction.

The house, which was featured on popular television program Grand Designs, integrates multiple levels of the natural sandstone cliff into the living areas while also being functional for a growing family.

It also won the NSW Custom Built Home and Custom Built Home $2 million to $4 million categories at this year’s HIA NSW awards, which were held online for the first time due to COVID-19.

The HIA’s top apartment complex of the year was Crown Group’s Infinity, a luxury apartment tower in Sydney’s inner-east.

Designed by heralded architecture group Koichi Takada Architects and built by Crown Group’s construction division, the $575 million, 20-storey Infinity was completed in mid-2019 and was named one of the world’s best projects at the 2017 Property Council of Australia’s annual congress.

A penthouse at the luxury tower was sold earlier this year for a record price of $4.115 million for the Zetland area, while features of the development include resort-style amenities complimented by a comprehensive hospitality precinct. 

The win was the second consecutive year that Crown Group won NSW’s best apartment complex, having won the category in 2019 with its $395 million Waterfall in Waterloo.

Apartment of the Year, however, went to Sydney-based builder Bay State Construction for its opulent development overlooking Coogee Bay.

The apartment is part of a three-unit building in South Coogee designed by X.Pace Architecture.

Japan-headquartered Sekisui House received three awards as it won the Project Home, Spec Home and Townhouse/Villa development over 10 dwellings categories.

Eden Brae Homes was named Professional Major Builder for the 13th time, while Better Built Homes was the top medium builder, with Blue Eco Homes winning the small builder category.
