Adelaide's tallest skyscraper set to rise by 2026
Developers in Adelaide are hoping to have the city's tallest building approved by March, with the imposing tower completed in a couple of years.
The tallest skyscraper in Adelaide is a step closer to rising behind the state heritage-listed Freemasons Grand Lodge.
The 183-metre building on 254 North Terrace is moving forward, with the submission of a development application.
Discussions are now underway to incorporate a new museum of South Australian history by 2026.
Designed by local architect Walter Brooke and Bara Consulting Group, Keystone Tower will feature a hotel, office space, conference facilities, a business lounge, a wellness retreat, and a three-storey observation deck.
Developers are hoping for planning approval before March 2024, and project completion in 2026.
The History Trust is also hoping to house a new Adelaide Museum of South Australia’s History on the first five floors of the new tower and within the Freemasons Hall, contingent on state government funding.
Adelaide’s first Westin Hotel is also now locked in as a premium 236-room star tenant.
The proposed building was originally planned as a 163-metre-tall tower. The latest plans revealed the 20-metre higher structure, which would make it the tallest building in Adelaide.
The Great Hall will be demolished to make way for the new tower while the Grand Lodge will be retained.
The $300 million project is being developed in partnership with Pelligra Group. The Freemasons will retain more than 50 per cent ownership of the building and hopes to raise millions more in annual donations because of their new asset.
The new building will eclipse the current height record holder, Crowne Plaza on Frome Street, by 45 metres.
The grand North Terrace building was erected in 1927 and added to the state heritage register in 1984.
Media reports have indicated the hotel will occupy level 13 to level 29, office space on level 30 and a function area on level 31.
A three-level public viewing platform featuring an observatory, mezzanine and balcony is planned for levels 33 to 35.
