New precinct next to former Queensland prison
Posted on Wednesday, November 16 2011 at 2:43 PM
Dutton Park land, adjacent to the former prison site previously known as Boggo Road and the EcoSciences Precinct, will be redeveloped into a mixed-use precinct in Brisbane’s inner southeast, according to Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.
Over the life of the project, expected to be between five and seven years, 1843 jobs will be created, says Bligh.
“On completion the project will incorporate residential, retail, commercial, research and recreational facilities while still retaining and complementing the historic significance of the site,” she says.
Queensland Minister for the Building Industry Simon Finn says, “The site is well connected in terms of pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, buses and trains and has also been earmarked as a possible train station within the Cross River Rail project.”
Options will also be investigated on how to redevelop the heritage-listed Boggo Road Gaol building.
