Household cleaning can make or break a flatmate relationship

When renting out properties by the room, landlords should assess each potential tenant with a series of questions about key household concerns, according to flatmate website EasyRoommate Australia.
An EasyRoommate online survey today revealed that 75.7 per cent of respondents (those searching for a room and those advertising a room) believe that a fair division of cleaning responsibility is the number one consideration when searching for a new flatmate.
The cost of household bills followed closely behind (66 per cent), with rules about house parties (58.3 per cent), house guests (57 per cent) and sleepover arrangements for partners (49 per cent) filling out the top five places.
Making sure tenant opinions on these issues match up could save a lot of household tension down the track, said EasyRoommate Australia director Radek Dobrolecki.
