Council approvals

Q How did you go about getting council approvals for your plans? Were there any hitches?

A We use professional consultants that regularly deal with council in these matters, as they know what council has allowed in the past (eg. consultant town planner, surveyor, building certifier, engineer etc.). Because council can vary its requirements regularly, you need a team that’s up-to-date and that speaks the right language. I definitely think it’s a false economy to do it yourself to try to save some money. Yes, we did have a couple hitches, hence the need for a team that can think outside the box. – Tamara

Large unit blocks

Q I noticed that you mentioned one of your units in Burpengary was part of a large complex, yet I often hear experts advising investors to only buy in small blocks. How have you found the experience of being an owner in a large complex?

A I hadn’t heard about experts saying that about large complexes. So I didn’t go in with any idea about that. I don't know why they would say that – maybe if the complex is not kept in great order. This complex is really fantastic – it is clean, tidy and has a pool. And it has been rented to the same young couple for the whole time we’ve owned it. So my experience has been good! – Margot
